Cuối cùng thì Oscar lần thứ 82 cũng đã có kết quả. Những thành quả của họ cũng đã được công bố. The hurt locker với 9 đề cử tranh giành cùng Avatar đã giành chiến thắng với 6 giải thưởng. Avatar càng về cuối càng hụt hơi, và chỉ đoạt 3 giải thưởng trong 9 đề cử. Như vậy, Jame Cameron vẫn chưa làm được điều ông đã làm mấy năm về trước với tác phẩm Titanic mặc dù doanh thu Avatar đã đưa phim này vào hàng ngũ kiệt tác.
